Our Team

We've assembled what we think is a group of the brightest and most caring financial planners and investment professionals in the country. They each have an interesting personal story and reason they got into this business. We thought you'd like to get to know them a little better. (take a look at our NAPFA financial planner interview)
Greg Aloia
Financial Advisor

The reason I got into this profession:
As a young lawyer, I found that the adversarial and confrontational nature of practice was neither in tune with my personality nor my desire to work collaboratively to solve problems. Moving into financial services gave me an opportunity to play to my strengths as a listener, a teacher and a collaborator. My first stops in the financial services industry were with firms that earned commissions by selling products. Over time, the tension between providing objective advice versus subjective, commission-driven advice began to take a toll on my mental and physical well-being. One manifestation of the stress was severe neck and back pain. I was very close to leaving the profession entirely. Ironically and providentially, a health professional who I had sought out for treatment introduced me to Spencer Sherman. Spencer introduced me to the model of fee-only financial advice, to the firm that is now Abacus, and to an objective, collaborative structure within which to help clients.
The primary way I'm advancing my career knowledge
By participating in seminars presented by experts such as the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council and Dimensional Fund Advisors; by reading journals to keep up-to-date on knowledge trends; and by interacting with Abacus advisor-colleagues.
One thing I do to help the planet
I participate as an active member of the Philadelphia Sustainable Business Network.
Outside of work, my passions include
The visual and musical arts, being active in the outdoors, and maintaining my physical health through exercise and yoga.
One goal I am saving for
An education fund for extended family members.
