This year, SJF Ventures, a portfolio fund of Align Impact Fund, joined Bain Capital’s Double Impact Fund to invest in Living Earth, the largest commercial recycler of organic landscaping materials in Texas. Living Earth processes organic waste into high quality compost, mulch and soil products.
Since its founding in 1985, Living Earth has grown to be an industry leader in the business of recycling, marketing and selling mulch, compost and soil products primarily derived from yard trimmings that otherwise would be disposed of in landfills. In addition to reducing materials diverted to landfills, Living Earth’s operations and products enhance soil quality and drought resistance, as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In 2007, Living Earth recycled over 500,000 tons of green material, the equivalent of taking 60,000 passenger cars off the road for one year.
