Hertz has made significant, proactive sustainability steps recently, voluntarily disclosing its carbon footprint to the world and executing against a multi-point strategy to address key impacts and advocate for environmentally preferable policies. Consequently, it had one of the largest increases in score in the most recent ratings.
Climate Change
Hertz took a major step by disclosing its carbon footprint publicly via the Carbon Disclosure Project. This is a sustainability best practice. Disclosing for the first time shows real progress in acknowledging the importance of sustainability to the business. Hertz has also installed photovoltaic solar panels and implemented energy efficiency initiatives at its facilities.
Environmental Vulnerability Score
Hertz’ environmental vulnerability score remained the same. They were in a good position previously, staying free of scandal, and have remained so.
Environmental Strengths: Hertz made notable progress in its Environmental Strengths scores. Automobiles, including rental cars and trucks, are a major source of greenhouse gases and other pollutants and impacts including oil and waste water. Hertz strengthened its environmental management and pollution prevention plans, assuring large volumes of car wash water and motor oil are recycled. It has also embraced green vehicles, offering hybrid and electric vehicles for rent. Hertz also offers “car sharing”-style hourly rentals to help customers live without a car in their primary location. Hertz also works to overcome obstacles and improve access to electric vehicles via the Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA) and Go Electric Drive.
