The Abacus Sustainable Fund has exposure to Zouk through its zSol (Zouk Solar) fund. zSol invests in companies located across Western Europe that enable a more efficient use of energy resources, specifically electricity through solar technology.
The environmental benefits of solar PV (photovoltaic) assets are a core driver for their installation. Solar PV assets generate electricity with zero carbon emissions. The use of electricity from solar PV assets displaces more carbon-intensive technologies (e.g., coal). Solar PV assets typically have a carbon payback of 2–3 years and a lifetime of 25–50 years. The portfolio that Zouk directly financed has resulted in carbon emission savings of over 430,000 tons over the lifetime of the assets. This is the equivalent of more than 14,200 households avoiding electricity from carbon-emitting sources every year. Alongside these environmental benefits, the net IRR forecast as of this writing for Zouk Solar is projected to be 10% on final exit.
