April is a month of opinions and defiance. First, April is the heart of the Aries season, symbolized by the ambitious, strong-willed and opinionated Ram.

Second, April is the month of choice for the Coachella music festival. The festival’s roots trace back to 1993 when Pearl Jam decided to boycott Ticketmaster venues due to their rising ticket fees, therefore performing at non-Ticketmaster-contracted venues such as the Empire Polo Club in Indio. This act of defiance validated the polo club’s ability to host large-scale music events, giving birth to Coachella.

Last, April means Earth Day! Inspired by the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara and the antiwar movement in the air, Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin built a staff of 85 to promote national events, transcending politics, to encourage public consciousness around air pollution, water conservation and the environment. On April 22, 1970, Nelson organized the inaugural Earth Day. Today, more than 1 billion people participate in Earth Day.
