My Story
I lived with my grandma after college. It was the perfect arrangement – I helped with cooking and cleaning and she let me live rent-free. There was no chore we couldn’t tackle together. One of our favorites was cleaning the wall of floor-to-ceiling windows; I’d be on the ladder outside while Gram stood inside pointing out all the dirty spots with a look of deep satisfaction.
One day I came home from work and saw Gram reading the mail, puzzled. “Casie, do you understand what this statement means?” I looked at the statement and it was confusing. She had investments in companies I’d never heard of before.
“Gram, where did you get this money?” It was Grandpa’s from when he worked. “Do you know how much you pay in fees for this account?” She didn’t think she was paying any fees.
We called her broker together for answers. Gram was confused and frustrated when we found that not only was she paying ridiculously high fees, but her investments were far too risky for her age. After the call, Gram said she felt like she had let Grandpa down. I knew I had to step up to be the partner to help her through this. The next day we left that broker together.
Everyone deserves to be with an advisor that understands and respects them. Now I focus on partnering with my clients to help point out the “dirty spots” so they can reach a level of deep satisfaction with their financial plan.
How I’m expanding what’s possible with money
I love teaching children lessons about money when they don’t even realize it. For example, our Girl Scout troop has great fun selling cookies together, all while secretly learning about money management, budgeting, entrepreneurship, and charitable giving. By teaching young people these skills, they’ll be more prepared to make important financial decisions throughout their lives.
Outside of work, my passions include
Spending time outdoors with family and friends. My three littles, husband, and I love to go on camping, floating, hiking, and mountain biking adventures together. I’m also a troop leader for two Girl Scout troops and strongly believe in the power of GIRL!
